ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday, mentioning the importance of “Ijtihad” – intellectual consultation – for effective implementation of reforms in society and Islamic teachings, urged the need for having specialised religious scholars who can take up this important task and address the issues of modern times.

Talking to the renowned religious scholar Dr Syed Salman Nadvi, who called on him along with a delegation here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the president emphasised that it is the responsibility of the religious scholars to reform the society. He added that religious scholars of the sub-continent played a valuable role in this regard, however, with time gradually, the matters shifted from reforms to traditions, which changed the entire situation.
