KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) Fire Brigade will get a 325-feet snorkel worth Rs499 million in March this year as a New Year gift from the Sindh government for the up-gradation of its system.
This was said by Sindh Local Government Project Director Niaz Soomro while talking to media at his office on Tuesday.
He said that the long snorkel is the need of the hour as Karachi is growing vertically. Current tenders and snorkels are unable to efficiently carry out fire extinguishing work at high rise buildings.
“The fire brigade is a very important department and hectic efforts are being made under the leadership of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to bring it at par with international standards. The 305-feet long snorkel has been included in the Annual Development Plan (ADP) for 2017-18,” Soomro added.
Soomro said Karachi will only be the second city in Pakistan after Lahore to get a snorkel of this size. However, he stressed that more big snorkels are needed in Karachi to make the fire brigade more efficient.
