I just wanted to get married, complains Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Tuesday said that his only crime was that he “wanted to get married.”

The PTI leader took to Twitter to break silence on his recent marriage controversy that has engulfed the nation.

He said, “For three days I have been wondering whether I have looted a bank, or money laundered billions from nation’s wealth, or ordered a model-town-like killing spree; or revealed state secrets to India? I have done none of these but discovered I have committed a bigger crime: wanting to get married.”

He went on to say, “The vicious, gutter media campaign led by Nawaz Sharif & MSR mafia does not bother me as respect & humiliation come from Allah Almighty.”

“However, my concern is for my children & the very conservative family of Bushra begum, all of whom have been subjected to this malicious campaign by NS & MSR,” the PTI leader said.

He said, “NS & MSR can rest assured that their vicious campaign has only strengthened my resolve to fight them all the way.” adding that he has known the Sharifs for 40 years and knows all their sordid personal lives but “would never stoop to the level of exposing these sordid details.”

The PTI leader concluded his twitter message by saying, “All I ask of my well-wishers and supporters is that they pray I find personal happiness which, except for a few years, I have been deprived of.”

The PTI chairman welcomed 2018 by allegedly marrying Bushra Maneka—daughter-in-law of Ghulam Muhammad Maneka—on the night of January 1 in Lahore, and came straight from there the next day to appear before the anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad that granted him bail.

Mufti Saeed, a member of PTI core committee, allegedly read the nikkah of the couple. It’s pertinent to mention here that Saeed was also the nikkah khawan when Imran publicly entered into marriage with Reham Khan on January 8, 2015.

PTI rebutted reports of Imran Khan’s third marriage but did say that the PTI leader has ‘sent a proposal’ to Bushra Maneka.
