Careem has just increased its fares in Pakistan.

It’s because “with multiple price hikes, there has been a direct and indirect impact on our Captains’ cost of doing business”, the cab service stated.

As a result, they have “implemented a cost adjustment in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad”.

Sibtain Naqvi, the head of public affairs at Careem Pakistan, said that the fare increase is for the captains in the wake of the increasing fuel prices.

According to him, the company will pass on this increase to the captains. “The increase is commensurate with fuel price,” he said.

“Also, this will translate into lower peak factors for our customers.”

Naqvi refused to share the rate at which the fare has been increased, but customers of Careem said that they have been experiencing an increase of up to 9%.

“We are working out the exact number and doing some math on it,” said Naqvi. “But it’s very small. It’s still being finalized so I can’t comment on it.”

Meanwhile, the statement sent out by Careem mentions that the cost adjustment has already been implemented in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.

Here is the full statement:

Dear Customers,

With multiple fuel price hikes, there has been a direct and indirect impact on our Captains’ cost of doing business. Captains are the driving force which enable safe, affordable and comfortable mobility for customers.

In light of the above, we have implemented a cost adjustment in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad to ensure your Captains continue to serve you while fostering their livelihood. We appreciate the trust you have placed in us and continue to provide a reliable service.

Thankyou,

Careem Team Pakistan
