CHAKWAL: Ousted prime minister (PM) Mian Nawaz Sharif has said on Monday that the Supreme Court (SC) verdict that led to his qualification has spread anarchy across the country.
Addressing a gathering of tribal elders in Chakwal, Nawaz said that his ouster has led to an increase in terrorism.
Recalling his painful days after being ousted by General (r) Pervez Musharraf during his second stint as premier in 1999, Nawaz Sharif said on Saturday that his “previous wounds” haven’t healed yet.
the ousted premier said that he was not allowed to return to Pakistan for 7 years, and added, “You know the reasons why we were forced to go into exile.” He further said that these wounds won’t heal soon.
He further said, “Let my previous wounds heal before giving me new ones.”
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief lamented that the case was of Panama [papers], but the verdict was given on the basis of ‘fictitious salary’ related to an Iqama. Nawaz expressed disappointment that a sitting prime minister was ousted for just holding an Iqama.
Nawaz pointed out that his disqualification is causing the prices to rise.
He went on to say that those who pushed the country into darkness could not be unveiled.
“People will decide now how to run the country,” the PML-N chief said, adding that people’s mandate was crushed whenever it suited some people.
The former premier sought to remind those present in the gathering that the PML-N government had faithfully served the people of the country over the past four years. “Everyone saw how well we have served in the previous four years. People know my mission, explanations about it are not necessary,” he said.
Listing the achievements of his tenure as PM, Sharif remarked that, “We have ended load-shedding in Pakistan and restored peace to Karachi.”
