NAB chief orders three inquiries, seeks report

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal on Monday ordered the NAB Lahore director general to investigate a complaint against special assistant of the Punjab Higher Education Commission and others.

The officials allegedly got undue benefits from the Punjab Small Industrial Cooperative Employees Housing Society and illegally occupied the land in connivance with the society’s management. He directed the NAB director general to submit a report accordingly within two months.

In another case, the chairman ordered the NAB Multan director general to investigate a complaint against former Punjab Assembly member Ahmed Hussain Dahar and others for constructing a road and housing colony on private land with official funds by misusing his authority, and making assets beyond known income, and submit a report within two months.

The chairman also ordered the NAB Lahore chief to hold an inquiry against former chairman of Pakistan Railways Arif Azeem over alleged corruption in purchase of 58 locomotives amounting to Rs 15.3 million and 40 power vans worth Rs 4,600 million from a Chinese firm in violation of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority rules, which are not in use due to their poor quality. The report will be submitted within two months.
