ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday directed the leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PM-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to submit their replies to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) petitions accusing the PML-N and the PPP of illegal and unlawful funding.
The hearing was adjourned till Jan 15 by a bench of ECP, due to the absence of Barrister Latif Khosa, the counsel of the PPP. The bench directed the parties to submit their replies to the petitions on next hearing.
Advocate Faisal Chaudhry, representing petitioner Farrukh Habib, at the last hearing, accused the PML-N and the PPP of concealing the source of their funds. He also said that audit report of the PML-N party fund accounts did not adequately disclose the source of funds and accurate financial statements.
The PML-N spent approximately Rs1.3 billion on the 2013 general election campaign but could not disclose where they got these funds from.
Similarly, the PPP also failed to disclose where it was getting its funds from.
He, therefore, requested the top electoral body to scrutinise the accounts of both the parties.
Advocate Jehangir Jadoon would represent the PML-N whereas Barrister Latif Khosa will represent the PPP in the said matter.
