Development and prosperity of southern Punjab among government’s top priorities: CM Shehbaz

LAHORE: Federal Minister for power, Sardar Awais Ahmad Leghari called on the Punjab chief minister (CM) Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday. Different matters of mutual interest including the ongoing development projects in southern Punjab along with the provision of facilities to the people came under discussion, in the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that the credit goes to Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), for it allocated more funds for southern Punjab as compared to its population. The development and prosperity of southern Punjab are among the top priorities of the PML-N government, added CM Shehbaz.

He said that the Metro and Speedo buses are facilitating thousands of passengers in Multan every day, and the provision of clean drinking water project for the people of southern Punjab is another initiative of the Punjab government.

Similarly, the construction of roads in the rural areas under the Pakkiyan Sarkan—Sukhay Panday program has improved the farmers’ access to urban markets. The farming community has greatly been benefited from the Rs100 billion Kissan Package, and the agricultural production has witnessed a significant increase.

On the other hand, the elements that speak of southern Punjab’s backwardness, have not given any attention to the solutions the PML-N government has offered to the problems of the people. The chief minister further said that the government of Punjab has provided resources worth billions of rupees for the development and prosperity of southern Punjab and added that the PML-N government shall provide many more delights to the people living there.

The CM said that he has personally been supervising the progress on the development projects that aim to bring prosperity across southern Punjab, adding that the government has fulfilled its responsibility in the past, and will continue to do so in the future as well.

Federal minister Awais Leghari said that the PML-N government has won the hearts of the people by sanctioning a historic budget for the welfare of the people of southern Punjab.

Separately, Nazir Ahmad, the father of a murdered child from the Bhalwal area of Sargodha, also met CM Shehbaz. He had demanded justice for his deceased son to the Punjab chief minister during a public meeting in Kot Momin.

Consoling to Nazir Ahmad, the chief minister assured that justice will be served. He reprimanded the police officials for failing to dispatch the case evidence to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency on time and ordered to dismiss the concerned DSP, SHO and the investigation officers from service. He also announced a financial grant of one million rupees for the father of the deceased child.

CM Shehbaz lamented that the police took 23 days for the verification of evidence without any reason. The sense of responsibility during the performance of one’s duties is a basic ingredient for justice, he added.

The chief minister also inquired about the details of the incident and was told that the child was killed after molestation. IG Police, RPO and DPO Sargodha were also present on the occasion.
