LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif while addressing an Ulema convention in Lahore, on Sunday, expressed regret over the United States (US) President Donald Trump’s statement blaming Pakistan for lying to the US and protecting terrorists.
Shehbaz said that Pakistan has made countless sacrifices in the war against terrorism that cannot be matched by any other ally of the US.
The chief minister stressed the importance of religious and sectarian harmony and urged the religious scholars to play their role towards ensuring religious and national unity in the country.
“The country cannot afford to fall victim to anarchy,” he said.
Earlier, Trump on January 1 had said in a tweet that Pakistan has given the US “nothing but lies and deceit” in return for billions in aid.
The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!

This was followed by the US freezing security aid to Pakistan.
