LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Sunday lashed out at the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government for removing the picture of late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto from Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) cards and condemned the move in the strongest possible words.
PPP Central Information Secretary and member of National Assembly (MNA) Nafisa Shah said that the removal of Benzair’s picture from BISP cards showed the ill intention of the PML-N government and proved that the PML-N – the darling of former dictator Ziaul Haq – had no regard for the sacrifices rendered by the slain prime minister and instead held a grudge against her.
“The BISP card was launched to pay tribute to the martyr of democracy (Benazir Bhutto) for her great services for the constitution, the country and democracy,” she said, adding that the PML-N president and former premier Nawaz Sharif wanted to close the progarmme, but he had to continue it under the pressure of international donors who continued funding the programme for the greater good. “The government will have to pay the price for removing her picture from BISP logo,” she warned, while adding, “Those who removed her picture are going to end soon.”
PPP Punjab Secretary General Chaudhry Manzoor said that Nawaz was reaping what he sowed. “Nawaz Sharif used to describe Benazir Bhutto as a security risk. Today, he is facing the same allegation. Now, the darling of law (Imran Khan) is terming Nawaz a security risk for the country. Nawaz Sharif, who was once the darling of the law is now calling Imran Khan a darling of law,” he said.
Manzoor clarified that the PPP only practiced politics of ideology due to which the party had sustained itself over the past five decades.
PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari said that Nawaz Sharif was disqualified on the basis of solid evidence. “The politics of ideology requires great sacrifices for the country and the nation. Nawaz Sharif has boarded a sinking ship which he is trying to abandon now,” he said, while adding, “Disqualified Nawaz Sharif has become a security risk for the country and wants confrontation with the state institutions.”
Nayyar further said that Nawaz had become mentally sick after the implementation of law in the country, adding that the deposed premier was now fearing the possibility of being put behind the bars.
