PESHAWAR: The Station House Officer (SHO) of Paharipura police station, Peshawar, was suspended on Friday after Malik Shahnawaz Khan accused him of thrashing and assaulting him when he denied the access to search the premises of his house late Thursday night.
Shahnawaz, a local councillor, said that the police did not consider his request to call a female officer and be accompanied by her before proceeding with the search, and rather resorted to coercion.
Police’s insistence to search without the presence of a female officer resulted in an escalation and confrontation which left me bruised, Shahnawaz added.
He further alleged that the police broke into his house and damaged the cupboards and doors and also took with them the closed-circuit cameras that were installed there. However, he did not show his house to the media.
A committee has been formed under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Member Provincial Assembly Arbab Jahandad Khan, which will enquire the matter. Until then, the SHO has been suspended and has been sent to the police lines from the police station.
Earlier in the day, a public protest was also held outside the Paharipura police station against the high-handedness of the police.
