Asghar Khan laid to rest with full military honours

ISLAMABAD: The remains of veteran politician and former air chief Air Marshal (r) Asghar Khan were laid to rest with full military honours in the Nawanshahr graveyard on Saturday.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and other government and military dignitaries attended the state funeral of Asghar Khan at the Nur Khan Airbase, Rawalpindi.

Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Naval chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Zubair Mehmood Hayat, and other top officials also attended the funeral.

Subsequently, Asghar Khan’s body was flown to Abbottabad via helicopter for burial at the family graveyard at Nawansher.

Asghar Khan passed away on Friday at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Rawalpindi at the age of 97.

According to his son Ali Asghar Khan, his father died due to cardiac arrest at 6:00 am at the hospital. He was admitted to the hospital a few days ago owing to a chest infection.
