THARPARKAR: Two Hindu businessmen were shot and killed while resisting a robbery attempt at their shop in Mithi, Tharparkar on Friday.
According to the local police, the victims, identified as Dileep Kumar and Chandar Maheshwari, were brothers.
Robbers riding a bike struck at their shop in the grain market early Friday morning and tried to loot cash.
When the two brothers put up resistance, the robbers opened fire at them. As a result, they suffered fatal bullet wounds and died on the spot.
The killings outraged the local traders, who shut their business and took to the street to protest against the incident in different including Mithi, Islamkot, Chhachhro, Diplo, Chelhar, Nagarpkar, Dahli and other areas.
A large number of people blocked almost all main roads of the city, disrupting vehicular movement on the roads. Police said they were making efforts to arrest the culprits.
Later, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani reached the venue and held talks with protesters and assured them of his full support to exert pressure on police to arrest the killers.
