SHC upholds life imprisonment in kidnapping case

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday upheld the life imprisonment awarded to a man by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in kidnapping for ransom case.

The ATC had sentenced a man named Ali Jaan to life imprisonment in 2014 after he was found guilty of kidnapping two real brothers and demanding ransom for their safe release in 2011.

Ali, through his counsel, challenged his punishment in the SHC and requested the judgment to be set aside and to issue his released orders.

The counsel for the appellant told the judges that the ATC did not follow the due procedure while convicting his client. The court was requested to set aside the judgment of the trial court and to order the release of the convict.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, the SHC bench rejected the plea and ruled that the convict would complete his term. The court ruled that it did not find any miscarriage of due process as pleaded by the appellant.
