KARACHI: Sindh Rangers and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Friday arrested over a dozen of alleged terrorists affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and recovered a large number of ammunition, weapons and bombs during a joint operation in Suhrab Goth area of Karachi.
According to Rangers spokesperson, Rangers and CTD carried out an operation in Gana Mandi and Mominabad areas on information that the terrorists, who had fled two days earlier during another encounter in Baldia area of the city, were hiding there.
He said that the entry and the exit points of the areas were sealed and a house to house search operation took place, after which Rangers and CTD arrested the 16 suspects allegedly linked to TTP.
According to the Rangers spokesperson, the arrested persons belong to Ustad Aslam group- a splinter group of TTP.
A list of the arrested terrorists was also released by the Rangers showing the arrest of Rafi Ullah alias Qari, Abdul Majid alias Mufti, Younis alias Annas, M Razzaq alias Shalldada, Shams ul Huda alias Molvi, Umer Khaliq alias Hussain, M Junaid alias Abdul Mannan, Junaid Ahmed, Khan Bahadur, Abdul Ghaffar alias Abu Huraira, Zain Ul Abidin alias Siddiqui, Saif Ullah alias Saifu, M Asif alias Dr Langra, Sana Ullah alias Sana, Abdul Aziz alias Kamran and Umer Ali Zargar.
The spokesman further informed that all the arrested were handed over to the CTD.
Earlier, Karachi police had claimed the killing of 5 terrorists of ISIS earlier this week during an operation in the outskirts of the city. A Malaysian citizen was also arrested on Quaid-e-Azam’s International Airport, and another major terrorist bid also was foiled on December 23, 2017, in the city.
