10 civilians killed in Jowzjan airstrike

At least 10 civilians were killed and four others wounded in an airstrike on Friday in Jowzjan’s Darzab district, Afghanistan, reported by Tolo News.

The residents of Faryab province, in the north of Afghanistan, claimed that the airstrike was carried out by foreign forces. About what the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan has yet to confirm the airstrike.

The residents said they went to Jawzjan to mediate the release of an imam who was taken hostage by Daesh and was under custody in Qari Hekmatullah, a designated commander of Daesh, house in the area, which was targeted by the airstrike. The imam was abducted from Faryab’s Shirin Tagab district and was taken to Jawzjan, they further added.

At least 14 people from Shirin Tagab and Darzab districts went to meet Hekmatullah to secure the release of the Imam.

Those wounded also said that Daesh militants were killed in the airstrike, as well.

The United Nations office in Afghanistan recently said the number of civilian fatalities has increased following the rise in airstrikes.
