ISLAMABAD: Hockey legend and former chief selector Hassan Sardar was handed the dual duty of head coach and manager of the national team for the upcoming two-match series against a World XI side on Thursday.
Sardar who won the country both the World Cup and an Olympic gold during his impressively successful career, has replaced Farhat Khan and will be assisted by Rehan Butt and Muhammad Saqlain.
Meanwhile, Islahuddin Siddique has been appointed as the team’s chief selector, a position that he has held before as well.
The World XI is scheduled to play one-match each in Karachi and Lahore during their four-day visit from January 18 to 21.
The Pakistan Hockey Federation has expressed hope that this might be an opportunity to demonstrate Pakistan’s improved security situation to convince international players to participate in the upcoming Pakistan Hockey League.
