PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak on Thursday directed for an efficient management of Zamung Kor, an institute for state children (street children), adding that these centres have been built in nine districts of the province along with two others in the tribal agencies – Khyber and Kurram agencies.

However, excluding Peshawar and Charsadda, these centres were not fully functional, he added. He was presiding over a meeting on the Zamung Kor project at the CM House in Peshawar. The relevant officials attended the meeting and briefed the CM about the progress on Zamung Kor.

Pervez Khattak expressed his disapproval on the progress, saying that these projects should have been functional at divisional level by now as resources for the purpose had been allocated in order to make state children useful citizens of the society.

He called upon the officials to work honestly and contribute sincere efforts for the state children. He further directed the concerned authorities to ensure quality food and to prepare daily reports.

He constituted a committee comprising Secretaries Social Welfare, Physical Planning and Finance to frame administrative, technical and financial rules and submit him the recommendations within ten days in order to extend Zamung Kor to all districts of the province.

He advised to replicate the Shaukat Khanum Trust Model and evolve a transparent mechanism with a focus on the growing-up and look-after of the state children.

The provincial government has already issued Rs400 million for the look-after and upbringing of the state children. The CM was also briefed about the donations gathered by Zamung Kor.
