‘Sustained institutes can provide Thalassemia patients treatment sans interruption’

BADIN: Mehran University Vice Chancellor Muhammad Aslam Ukeli has said that Thalassemia is a fatal disease that doesn’t only hurt the children, but also causes distress to the parents of the child suffering from it.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of 20KVs solar system funded by the Sindh Doctors Association, UK, on Wednesday, he said that not only does the society need to support those suffering from Thalassemia, but institutes need sustainability as well.

He said that the sustained institutes can provide the poor patients proper treatment without any interruption. Announcing to bear the outlay of a Thalassemia major patient’s treatment from his personal profit for the rest of his life, Ukeli expressed the generous efforts of the association for the provision of the funds to the Thalassemia Centre Badin for solar lights.

He said that blood donation camps would be set up at the Mehran University in order to ensure an abundant quantity of blood for the facilitation of the Thalassemia patients. Addressing the gathering, Badin Deputy Commissioner Dr Shehzad Tahir Thaheem said that a campaign was launched to adopt the patients and offer them full support.

He said that the drive also raised sufficient awareness among the masses. Speaking at the event, Sindh Doctors Association representative Dr Afsana Bhurgari requested the global community to provide generous funds for the Thalassemia patients. He emphasised over launching awareness raising campaigns against Thalassemia.

Dr Muneer Ahmed Shaikh, Dr Haroon Memon, Dr Hassan Memon, Raja Zafar Iqbal and others also addressed the gathering.
