ISLAMABAD: All the major political parties of the country blasted former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for his Wednesday’s press conference in the federal capital, asking him to muster the courage to expose the names of the alleged conspirators instead of defaming the state institutions for political mileage.

The political parties, equating Nawaz Sharif’s threating tone with US President Donald Trump’s recent tweets, advised him to avoid such a rhetoric which gives a bad name to the country and its institutions.

Pakistan Peoples’ Party’s (PPP) spokesperson Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief should have listened carefully because he remained “Ladla” (favourite) of the system in the past, so he knew well as how elections could be rigged.

He said that today Nawaz is talking about all the pains and wounds of his past, but he should also tell the nation about his role in toppling the PPP’s governments in the past. “Nawaz should also tell the country as to what role he played in ousting Muhammad Khan Junejo’s government,” he added.

Kaira went on to say that since Nawaz Sharif is not the ‘blue-eyed boy’ of the system any longer, he wanted to win the forthcoming elections through anti-establishment rhetoric.

“There is no difference between the talks of Nawaz Sharif and Trump. He, being the president of the ruling party, should not use such language,” he maintained.

However, he also did not spare Imran Khan and said that, along with PML-N leadership, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman is equally responsible for polluting the political culture by using foul language in politics.

On the other hand, PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said that Nawaz should dare to expose the names of those hatching conspiracies against him, as he started making hue and cry about his defeat before the elections.

He said that the former PM ‘confessed’ to rigging in 2013 general elections, and is now trying to escape before the match has even started.

Fawad said that since he didn’t have anything to present in his support, he has resorted to defaming the judiciary and military.

He said that both Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shehbaz Sharif should tell the nation about their visit to Saudi Arabia.

PTI spokesperson said that the visible anger on Nawaz Sharif’s face is enough to suggest that his visit to the kingdom proved futile and he did not succeed in his mission.

Punjab government should not provide protocols to the accused Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, he said, adding that mobile phones of Maryum Nawaz and Donald Trump should be confiscated.

Meanwhile, PTI senior leader MNA Asad Umer said that Nawaz Sharif is the certified ‘Ladla’; therefore, he considered everyone blue-eyed.

He said that, unfortunately, the former PM is always trying to target state institutions in a bid to terrify them.

“He is desperately and repeatedly attacking the establishment not only in Pakistan but abroad [as well] under a well-thought-out strategy to build pressure on institutions nationally and globally,” he added.

Regarding Dawn Leaks, Asad said that it was a well-planned move by the PML-N leadership to bring Pakistan’s institutions under pressure so as they could not take action against Nawaz Sharif.

Asad said that the popularity graph of Nawaz Sharif was fast declining due his disqualification in Panama Leaks case and the subsequent bid to amend Khatm-i-Naboowat act.

Talking to Pakistan Today, Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) senior leader Ajmal Khan Wazir said that Nawaz Sharif adopted a threating tone in his press conference because he failed to get the expected National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) in Saudi Arabia.

He said that the ousted prime minister visited Riyadh in order to strike an NRO to get some relief; however, it could not materialise due to the timely reaction by the opposition parties in the country.

Ajmal said that the time has gone when the fate of the country was decided abroad, as now all important decisions regarding the country’s fate would be taken within it.

PML-Q leader said that frustration was clearly visible on Nawaz’s face, and it could be judged from his tone that he had nothing—but he used the language of Trump and Modi to defame state institutions.

Awami National Party (ANP) spokesperson Zahid Khan, while talking to Pakistan Today, said that his party had a very clear stance on the politically-motivated cases: All such cases should not be brought to the courts, because history has proved that all such judgments remained controversial.

He said that there is some weight behind reservations expressed by Nawaz Sharif, as, on one hand, PTI chief’s bail application has been approved by the anti-terrorism court (ATC) of Islamabad; on the other hand, Nawaz Sharif and his family were being treated differently altogether.

He said it is natural that everyone will criticise the court’s verdict when it comes against them, and that is why the ANP strongly opposed taking political matters to courts.

“The political issues should be sorted out at the parliament house and in the public courts instead of involving the judiciary in every matter,” he advised.

‘NAWAZ WILL NEVER MAKE SHAHBAZ PM’:

Meanwhile, Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed once again predicted that “Nawaz Sharif will never make Shehbaz Sharif prime minister, as he does not trust him.”

Talking to media outside accountability court, the outspoken politician said that Nawaz thinks “if he has been disqualified, everyone [else] should be disqualified [as well].”

To a question, he said, “I can say with responsibility that Imran Khan is not involved in TV assault case.”

Nawaz has become so irresponsible and ignorant that he is continuously criticising the PTI chief, he remarked.
