ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) has sought a reply from the federal government on the matter of non-induction of Prosecutor General (PG) during the course of hearing bail applications of people involved in the Madarba case and adjourned the hearing case until Monday.
The court remarked, “We should be told what steps have been taken with regard to the appointment of the judge of the Accountability Court (AC) and PG.
A two-member bench of the SC presided over by Justice Gulzar Ahmad took up the case for hearing on Wednesday.
The counsel for the accused told the court that his clients were in jail while the post of accountability court judge No 2 was vacant since September 2017.
Justice Gulzar Ahmad inquired why the judge was not appointed in the AC.
The counsel for NAB told the court that federal government has yet to make an appointment and the federal government has also not appointed PG. NAB is facing difficulties due to lack of these appointments. The other judge No 1 of AC will also retire in March.
The court while issuing a notice to the Attorney General (AG) on the points raised by NAB counsel remarked, “Tell us what steps have been taken in connection with the appointment of judge of accountability court and PG. The attorney general should give a reply on the points raised by NAB counsel.”
The hearing of the case was adjourned until Monday.
