The son-in-law of the ex-PM Nawaz Sharif is accused of Rs3bn corruption. He is alleged of favouritism in terms of awarding contracts for development projects.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal himself ordered the inquiry into the case. He took notice of irregularities worth Rs2bn in the contracts of development projects of Rs3bn.
NAB chairman assured to restore the financial resources lost by the state in such corruption scandals, and directed NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to investigate corruption alleged allegations against Safdar, saying looted amount should be recovered and deposited in national exchequer.
Justice (retd) Iqbal vowed that the inquiry into petitions against Capt (retd) Safdar will be transparent, as all standards of merit and law will be maintained. “Those responsible will be punished,” he added.
Safdar, Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif reappeared in the accountability court over corruption references.
Talking to media outside the accountability court, he said, “Our appearances have been completed, and now we have to launch an investigation against Musharraf for his wrong deeds.”
Holding the former president responsible for all prevailing issues, Safdar deemed an investigation against Musharraf imperative to protect the state and the constitution.
