ISLAMABAD: The Interior Ministry, on Wednesday, approved official passports for members of the provincial assembly, metropolitan corporation mayor and the local government chairman.
A resolution has also been passed in the provincial assemblies regarding the approval which had been pending for a while.
On the other hand, according to reports, of the total 632 employees hired from across the country on contractual basis for the Passport office’s Machine Readable Passport (MRP) project, only a handful have received their salaries for the last six months.
However, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal during a recent visit to the Passport Office was misled into believing that all was well at the office, when in fact the office is facing a severe shortage of funds due to mismanagement.
