NA body briefed on completed, ongoing projects in Karachi

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Housing and Works (H&W) was briefed on the status of the ongoing and completed projects of the federal government in the metropolis city, Karachi, on Monday.

Member National Assembly (MNA) Mian Abdul Mannan chaired the 40th meeting of NA body on H&W held at Pakistan Public Works Department (PPWD) Office, Karachi.

The Committee was briefed by the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) director general about the status of the completed projects in Karachi. He said that they were facing problems due to the unsatisfactory coordination of Karachi Electric (also known as K-Electric), Sui Southern Gas Limited (SSGL) and Sui Northern Gas Limited (SNGL).

He further provided the Committee with the details of the projects in various sectors of the city.

The Committee unanimously decided that the representatives from SSGL, SNGL, K-Electric, Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), managing director Water Board, chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and secretary Planning Division would be called in the next meeting of the Standing Committee.

The Committee also decided that the next meeting of the Committee would be held in the second week of January to discuss the Thalian Project and problems faced by the government in this regard.

The Committee directed the director general PPWD that updated status of Mosa Khel road should be provided to the Secretariat at the earliest. The Committee also decided that another meeting would be convened in Karachi by the end of this month for the detailed inspection of all the ongoing and completed projects by the Federal Government in Karachi.

The MNAs, Ms Khalida Mansoor, Ms Nighat Parveen Mir, Ms Shahida Rehmani and Mr Sajid Nawaz and some senior officers from the Ministry of Housing & Works also attended the meeting.
