LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice, Mansoor Ali Shah on Sunday criticised the legal fraternities recurrent strikes and advised lawyers to protest only those issues for which they are most deeply concerned and upset about.
During his address at an event in Lahore, he shared the statistics, pointing out that 200,0040 cases were not heard only because of the 3,040 strikes by lawyers in 2017.
The chief justice asserted that it made no sense for a lawyer to protest each and every issue, especially those which do not relate to Pakistan.
In the most recent example, the legal practitioners boycotted courts in lieu of the suicide attack at a church in Quetta, preceding this protest was their demonstration against US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Similarly, the legal fraternity in Multan protested for seven days straight earlier this month over the shifting of the judicial complex. During the protest, a couple dozen of them went on a rampage, reportedly destroying and vandalising government property.
