Rs 17M robbed from Karachi’s banks in 2017

KARACHI: At least eight hapless private banks in Karachi had forlorn state of affairs in 2017 as robbers looted a whooping Rs 17 million from them in just 27 minutes (or 1620 seconds).

As per details, the first bank robbery of 2017 was recorded on January 29 in which the robbers managed to loot Rs 2 million in just five minutes.

Two banks situated in North-Karachi and Maripur were deprived of a collective sum of Rs 10.6 million on 10th and 16th of May respectively.

On July 21, another bank fell prey to vicious circle of robberies in the metropolis as robbers took away with them Rs 3 million from the bank situated in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area.

Robberies garnered pace in month of August when bank’s staffers took away with them Rs 6.5 lacs in Kharadar area. The criminals also killed the bank manager in the process.

It is pertinent to mention that the two groups involved in four of the bank robberies are still at large.
