Police Qaumi Razakar member killed, two cops injured in attack

RAWALPINDI: A Police Qaumi Razakar member was shot dead while two policemen sustained injuries after unidentified gunmen opened firing on them in the wee hours of Thursday in the Dhoke Hassu area.

According to police, the police party which came under attack was carrying out routine checking at a police picket.

City Police Officer Police (CPO) Spokesman Israr Ahmed Abassi told reporters that the police officials were performing their routine duty near Bimillah Hotel in the jurisdiction of Ratta Amral police station. When they saw a motorcycle approaching towards the post, they signaled the rider to stop.

Instead of stopping the the three riders opened indiscriminate firing at the police officials and sped away from the scene. As a result, a Police Qaumi Razakar, identified as Shamsheer, was killed on the spot while two constables, identified as Makhdoom and Sajjid, were critically injured.

The spokesman said that a first information report had been registered on the application of the eyewitness, namely Head Constable Faisal. Subsequently, special teams have been formed to arrest the unknown attackers.

Ratta Amral police said that sketches of the attackers were being prepared while the recording of CCTVs were being collected to bring the culprits to justice.
