ISLAMABAD: Former finance minister Ishaq Dar has rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan’s allegations as “baseless”.

Interacting with a private news channel here, Dar said he was a financial adviser in London and that Imran Khan had once visited him.

“I was a non-resident, so I wasn’t liable to pay taxes under the Pakistani laws,” said Dar.

In response to a query regarding the properties owned by his son, Dar said that his son’s business was fully documented and audited by one of the world’s largest audit firms.

“The 52 villas were not bought, they were booked. There is a difference. Only a token payment has to be paid and it is a common practice in the UAE,” he added.

Dar said that Imran Khan was in a habit of levelling baseless allegations against others, and alleged he used to visit his and his sons’ offices in London and ask for charity for his cancer hospital.

Dar said it was a baseless allegation that he didn’t pay taxes. He said he filed tax returns and presented the record in court twice, including the JIT investigation.

Dar said all his financial record was with the National Accountability Bureau and Supreme Court. “Since 2007, there is a decline in my net worth,” he added.
