Son of slain PML-F women wing leader detained

HYDERABAD: The son of late Saira Naseer, a provincial women wing leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), has been detained after police found “incriminating evidence” against him, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hyderabad Pir Mohammad Shah revealed to a private media outlet Thursday.

Earlier this month, police had found Naseer’s charred remains in her burnt car. She was identified by her daughters through her rings. The police believed that she was murdered before being set alight.

The SSP had told Naseer’s family, including her husband Zaheer, her son Fahad and two daughters, to visit him at his residence late Wednesday night. According to Zaheer, Shah interrogated the family after which he detained Fahad and told the rest of them to leave. He added that a Station House Officer (SHO) Ibrahim Soomro was also present there at the time.

“He said that he would deliver Fahad to our house personally,” Zaheer said. The family waited for Fahad until 2am on Thursday, but he did not return.

They went back to the SSP’s house but were told that he was not home, Zaheer added.

The SSP, however, claims to have found evidence against the son and is expected to hold a press conference later in the day.
