MMA has been fully activated: Siraj

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq said Thursday that the religious parties’ alliance, known as Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), has been fully activated and the alliance will combine its efforts to defeat other religious parties in the next general elections.

He said this while talking to reporters after addressing party workers at a meeting in London.

The JI chief said that the past and the present governments lacked the will to resolve the problems being faced by the country on both internal and external fronts, adding that they had lost the confidence of the masses due to their failed policies.

He said that the JI’s drive against corruption had created an awakening among the masses all over the country. He was hopeful that in the next elections the masses would reject the corrupt elements and elect honest and competent leadership having clean records.

Sirajul Haq further said that the JI wanted accountability to go alongside the electoral process. He also demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ban all plunderers of public money from contesting the next elections.

Referring to the Khatm-e-Nubuwwat issue, he said the ball was still in the government’s court. He said that until the report of a committee, headed by Raja Zafrul Haq, was not made public and the culprits named and punished, the unrest and hatred among the masses against the government would remain alive.

The JI chief called on senior JI leader Professor Khurshid Ahmed in London and prayed for his quick recovery. On the occasion, JI Deputy Secretary General Muhammad Asghar also accompanied him.
