KARACHI: Sindh police are still waiting to receive the funds that were promised to them by the federal government to safeguard Chinese nationals, who are working on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects in the province, reported a local English daily on Wednesday.

The Chinese government had earlier issued a safety warning to its officials in Pakistan, based on intelligence reports indicating possible attacks on their lives.

The Sindh police have set up a security unit with 1,358 personnel and plan to enhance it with two more units, one comprising 1,300 men and the other 1,000. The units are called Special Protection Units which would operate under Sindh police’s Rapid Response Force, he added.

The Chinese Embassy mentions its reservations on its website regarding intelligence reports that warn of a series of terror attacks planned on Chinese nationals and has urged its citizens to stay inside and avoid crowded places.

The Sindh police approached the provincial government for the release the funds required for executing the process of the Planning Commission efficiently. The provincial government presented the case before the federal government but has not been given any answer as of yet.
