Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday alleged that rulers of the country have debilitated democracy and the parliament, and conspiracies are at play to weaken state institutions.
Addressing supporters of the party’s at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, Larkana on the 10th death anniversary of his mother and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, Bilawal said that a conspiracy was being hatched to clip the wings of state institutions in order to weaken them. “Benazir always spoke about provincial autonomy and women empowerment. Pakistan today is facing isolation in the world,” he remarked.
The country, he added, is indebted to pay off loans while the economy is in ruins.
“Former premier struggled for democracy for 30 long years and campaigned against military dictators,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Bilawal told a British media outlet that he considered former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf the murderer of his mother. The PPP chief said that Pakistan’s schools, colleges and places of worship weren’t safe as terrorists could strike whenever they want.
He went on to say that his party struggled to revive the judiciary, but it didn’t receive justice in the case of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.
Taking a jibe at the deposed premier Nawaz Sharif, Bilawal said that those who accused other politicians of corruption were found involved in the biggest corruption, as revealed by the Panama Papers.
