Swine flu in Multan claims four lives in two weeks

MULTAN: At least four people have been killed due to swine flu in Multan in the past two weeks while six more patients have been admitted to hospitals for tests.

The health ministry does not have any record of the total casualties caused by swine flu at private hospitals, however, as per reports, 8 people were killed and 75 contracted the virus in 2016 in the metropolis.

In 2009-10, the H1N1 swine flu pandemic spread from central Mexico to 74 other countries, killing an estimated 284,000 people according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In India, more than 2,700 died between May 2009 and December 2010 due to the disease. Last year, India recorded 218 swine flu-related deaths and 937 cases down from 2013 when 699 died.
