ISLAMABAD: Police in the federal capital will erect mobile police pickets at various points of the city from time to time in order to maintain high vigilance and effective checking.
Following the directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sultan Azam Temuri, the police spokesman said that a decision had been made to constitute special teams for checking in various areas, adding that they would erect mobile police pickets to keep an eye over suspects. Different halting points would be created to keep an eye over suspicious persons and vehicles in an effort to curb crime and criminal activities.
More than 44 vehicles had been provided to the checking teams and their mobile pickets would work according to different time schedules, he said, while adding that their locations would be changed after every 45 minutes.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) (Operations) Sajid Kiani on Tuesday formally briefed the police officials about this checking plan. The briefing was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police Hasam bin Iqbal, Superintendent of Police (SP) (City) Zubair Ahmed Sheikh, Superintendent of Police (Rurla) Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer, Superintendent of Police (Industrial Area) Liaqat Hyat Niazi, Superintendent of Police (Saddar) Aamir Khan Niazi, all sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) and station house officers (SHOs).
The SSP (Operations) Sajid Kiani said that exit and entry points of the capital would also be cordoned off per the decided schedule.
He also said that in order to prevent street crimes within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), police would adopt a pro-active policing policy.
He said two registers would be placed in each vehicle and SPs, SDPOs and SHOs would write down details in each register after the completion of checking duties. He further said that a total of 44 vehicles had been allocated for the purpose.
The police teams would also conduct surprise checking to ensure security of educational institutions, important buildings, media houses, trading centres and other important places and roads, he said. In case of getting information about any untoward incident, all vehicles would report to the decided reporting points and perform their duty according to the orders of senior officers, he added.
Moreover, Kiani said that the policemen would report everyday incidents in the city and SPs concerned would regularly check the performance of personnel stationed at pickets.
He said that the staff deputed at the halting points would be issued pro forma to note down every day activities. The pro forma would be submitted to the officers concerned on a daily basis, he added. Reports prepared by the officers would be monitored and those who would perform their duties diligently would be given awards, he said.
