RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) conducted a grand anti-encroachment operation in collaboration with district and City Traffic Police, during which the corporation confiscated 10 truckloads of goods belonging to encroachers, while also impounding 350 motorcycles parked in no parking areas during the last one week.
According to RMC spokesman, the staff after receiving directives from Rawalpindi commissioner, deputy commissioner and Rawalpindi mayor conducted raids in various areas of the city to remove encroachments under the supervision of area magistrate Ahmed Hassan Ranjham and RMC Chief Officer Khalid Javed Goraya.
The teams visited Liaquat Road, Iqbal Road, Raja Bazaar, Bara Bazaar, Jamia Masjid
Road, Gangmandi, Machli Mandi, Jinnah Road, Talwaran Bazar, Mochi Bazar, Borah Bazar
and the adjoining roads. During the operations, the teams confiscated goods of around 120 encroachers while imposing fines worth Rs 30,000 on shopkeepers found involved in encroaching up on government land.
The spokesman said that the enforcement staff would continue the operation on a daily basis, adding that violators would be fined and their goods confiscated. Despite repeated warnings,
the encroachments were not removed which prompted us into action, he added. Now, strict action in accordance with the law was being taken and the confiscated goods would be auctioned instead of being returned to the shopkeepers, he said.
He informed that 350 motorcycles parked in no parking areas and on different city roads were also lifted through fork lifters and impounded in the respective police stations.
He further informed that six first information reports were also lodged against the violators in the respective police stations.
