The past couple of years have seen a lot of cross border exchange especially in the entertainment industry. Our favourites, Mahira Khan and Saba Qamar made their Bollywood debuts this year, making a strong mark and we couldn’t be more proud of their performances and success.
UK-based publication Eastern Eye, ranked Mahira Khan as the number one debutante of 2017 in Bollywood, while the zesty Saba Qamar bagged the third spot.
The publication in its list quoted film critic Anna MM Vetticad who commented: “Mahira Khan – a star in Pakistan, a debutant here – is naturally easy before the camera playing Raees’ girlfriend and later his wife.”
However, Bollywood trade analyst Atul Mohan said, “When you are in a film with SRK, you don’t get much scope to perform. But in that too she was decent.”
While for Saba the critic was equally full of praises, she compared her with Fawad Khan, saying that the two stars have convinced the local audiences that Pakistan has received its mighty share of the world’s hotness. She added that, “Though her character is often hyper, her acting never is – that is a fine line to tread and she pulls it off wonderfully.”
Mohan echoed the same thoughts and said, “She impressed us with her histrionics. She also looked perfect with Irrfan. Both complemented each other in the film.”
Saba co-starred with Indian renowned actor Irrfan Khan, who gushed over her performance in the film ‘Hindi Medium’ too. He said that he saw Qamar’s work on YouTube earlier and found it quite convincing.
Mahira Khan is the only Pakistani actress to have starred opposite a Bollywood superstar such as Shah Rukh Khan in the film ‘Raees’.
Sajal Aly and Adnan Siddiqui also made their Bollywood debut this year with the film Mom, which also starred Sri Devi, but her name was not on the list.
Both were applauded for their intense performances. Trade expert Komal Nahta couldn’t get past Sajal’s brilliant performance and said, “Sajal lived up to her demanding role and lived up to everyone’s expectation. There were moments in the film where she was brilliant. She is a fine actor.”
mahira is a tremendous talent, she has shown her range in two hit films. She played a girl next door in Raees,and strong female lead role in Verna! Both spot on acting. Mahira has a great mix of sexiness and girl next door vibe ,that is very appealing,this gives her age over other actresses!
