Tareen’s future to be decided today: report

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) core group is scheduled to meet on Saturday for a crucial meeting in order to discuss how the party will proceed after the recent disqualification of the PTI leader Jahangir Khan Tareen, according to a local English daily.

The party may continue with Tareen as an unofficial secretary general or contemplate hiring a new secretary general in case the review petition does not succeed.

Tareen was the head of the PTI legal team and was responsible for the overall organisation of the party. He was also the one awarding party tickets to potential candidates for the next general elections.

Contrary to an early announcement by the PTI, it seems that the secretary general seat will not remain vacant as the general elections are approaching fast.

However, according to reports, Tareen might continue informally as the party relies heavily on his expertise.

Tareen went abroad the day his disqualification was announced but is due to return today and attend the meeting at Bani Gala.

According to reports, Tareen has been advised against filing a review petition against his disqualification since the lead counsel is of the opinion that it could lead to new problems.

However, party chief and other senior members want to file the review petition. Tareen will make the final decision on Sunday.
