ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudry, speaking to a foreign news agency, has stated that the recent ban against some International Non-Governmental Organisations (INGOs) in Pakistan came about because of the unauthorised functioning and work of all such organisations which had no legal jurisdiction in the country, according to a report by a private media outlet.

According to the report, the minister stated that the banned INGOs were spending all their money on administrative expenses and were not doing the work they had the mandate of doing. He further added that some of these INGOs were “knowingly or unknowingly” working against the interest of Pakistan’s national security and thus were deemed unfit to function in the country anymore.

Pakistan government had earlier banned more than 20 INGOs from the country on allegations of incompetence and not doing the prescribed work. The decision had received criticism from various human rights organisations and some parts of the civil society.

Earlier, while addressing a function, he said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) decided to nominate Shehbaz Sharif for the post of prime minister only because of his commitment and honesty.

He said that the PML-N is a politically mature party. He said that after Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N has Shehbaz Sharif, who has God-gifted qualities.

He said that the PML-N government successfully eliminated terrorism from the country. It also solved the problem of load shedding that was hurting the industrial sector for the last two decades, he added.

He said that the government was committed to completing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which would give a quantum jump to national progress.

The minister distributed buffaloes and cows among 100 deserving widows and poor rural women.
