LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday announced that the government will pass the minority rights commission bill from the provincial assembly, adding that the law minister shall take necessary steps to pass the bill from the assembly after consultations.

Addressing a special Christmas function at his Model Town residence, the CM also announced a remission of three months in the sentences of Christian prisoners. He said that solution of problems of Youhanabad and Joseph Colony will be pondered over.

He said that five per cent employment quota has been reserved for minorities and the children of minority communities are getting good jobs in public sector departments.

He said that birth anniversary of Jesus Christ is celebrated in Pakistan with zeal and fervour. Unluckily, a tragic incident of terrorism occurred in Quetta a few days ago, where Christians were killed mercilessly. The elements doing it are enemies of humanity and they will not find any place to hide anywhere in Pakistan, he said.

“These savage animals will be arrested and they will get severe punishment,” he said.

The chief minister expressed his heartfelt sympathies on behalf of the people, Punjab government and the PML-N and said that “we fully share the grief of the bereaved families”. May Almighty Allah give strength and courage to the Christian community, he prayed. He said Hazrat Isa (AS) has been mentioned in Holy Quran with detail.

He conveyed Christmas greetings to the Christian community, and also cut the Christmas cake with them.
