ISLAMABAD: Maryam, a Philippine woman who married Imran, a resident of Kurram Agency, on Friday moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for a Pakistani citizenship to stay in the country with her husband.

Maryam also submitted her marriage certificate and other documents to the court nominating the interior ministry, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) as respondents in her petition.

IHC’s Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui approved the petition for hearing and adjourned proceedings till January 12.

Talking to reporters outside the court, Imran said he and his wife want to spend their lives together. Imran wants the court and the interior ministry to grant a Pakistani citizenship to his wife as he fears that she might be deported.
