ISLAMABAD: The National Working Women day was observed here on Friday – the day was declared in December 2010 in recognition of working women’s struggle to secure a dignified and respectful working environment.
The day was also celebrated to acknowledge the economic contributions made by women to the country. National Assembly Member (MNA) Tahira Aurangzeb stressed on the need for having awareness campaigns for men in order to educate them about the rights of women in society.
Talking to the media, Tahira pointed out that education plays a vital role in the success of any society and if men cause hurdles in women’s education then her survival in a skilled society becomes questionable.
“A rural woman can’t even read the Quran properly due to less knowledge,” she said.
Tahira said that a woman is the most important pillar of society and urged the women of Pakistan to join hands to curb violence against themselves and to ensure the provision of all their rights including healthcare, education, employment, shelter and food.
“Strong legal framework is needed to protect women from violence,” she said and further added that skill-based education and entrepreneurship must be encouraged to promote women’s economic empowerment in the country.
