Maryam Nawaz likely to be PML-N’s candidate for Punjab CMship in election 2018

LAHORE: Daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and leader Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) Maryam Nawaz is most likely to succeed uncle, Shehbaz Sharif as her party’s candidate for Punjab’s chief ministership in the upcoming 2018 general elections.

According to sources, Maryam Nawaz is set to contest elections on both provincial and national assembly seats in the general elections of 2018 and will be most likely heading PML-N’s stronghold in Punjab as the chief minister.

The decision comes in wake of the PML-N President Nawaz Sharif’s recent announcement that paved way for his younger brother and current Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif to be the candidate for the slot of prime minister in the next general elections.

The PML-N chief reasoned that Shehbaz had earned the achievement by actualising his vision of swift progress and development in the capacity of Punjab CM. He said that Shehbaz’s hard work and performance required of him to assume higher authority.

Maryam Nawaz was also recently featured on the named among the top 11 powerful women of the world in a 2017 ranking issued by New York Times.

She was ranked as the most courageous and most powerful woman of Pakistan and according to the newspaper could be hailed as the most suitable heir to the political empire that her father and ousted premier Nawaz Sharif has built.

However, just like her ousted father, Maryam Nawaz also faces a plethora of corruption charges and court cases that have recently seen her family make repeated rounds to the accountability courts of the country.
