KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday granted further time to the provincial government to file a comprehensive reply on a petition seeking implementation of five percent disabled quota for employment in all government sectors.
A division bench was hearing a petition filed by disabled special persons who had applied for employment in different departments but were not given jobs.
The provincial law officer requested the court to grant them a time for filing the reply on which the court the court was adjourned till the next hearing on January 15.
The disabled persons laid down in front of the Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon’s car when he was returning back after the hearing.
The protesting disabled persons demanded the chief secretary to immediately appointment them as per their respective qualifications or provoked him to run his car over them.“We come here to get appointed, but all we get is a new date,” one of the female petitioners said.
Advocate Nadeem Shaikh and Atam Parkash, who were counselling the petitioners, intervened and persuaded them to clear the chief secretary’s way in honour of the court.
The petitioners included Sumbul, Rubina, Nasir Ahmed, Nooman Ahmed Ansari, Sajjid Ali, Abudul Raheem, Ismail, Asad and others.
They pleaded that the respective departments had conducted their interviews and test, and had also issued disability certificates to them.
They said that the chief minister had assured them that they would be hired in different departments as well as their quota will be enhanced from two to five per cent.
The petitioners maintained that the concerned authorities have miserably failed to provide employments to the deserving applicants.
The court was further requested to call a report from the relevant authorities to ascertain the implementation of five percent quota of disabled persons.
