LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif on Friday inaugurated the Lahore Ring Road (LRR) southern loop I and II which has been constructed in collaboration with Lahore Ring Road Authority and Frontier Works Organization (FWO).
Construction of this 22.4 kilometres (km) long important road, which had been constructed in a record period of one year, had connected the southern and northern parts of the city. More than 100,000 passengers would travel on this road every day.
The 90 metres wide six-lane road also had many interchanges so that motorists could have easy access to all important roads of the provincial metropolis.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of LRR southern loop, the chief minister said that this project had been completed under public-private partnership and construction work was handled by the civil administration and the FWO jointly, while adding that improving infrastructure was the best way to move the country forward.
He said that the project was a great example of quality, speedy completion and construction standards. In normal circumstances, the project could not have been completed before three years, but had been completed in a record period of one year, he added. He thanked the FWO director general and his team, Punjab ministers, Lahore Ring Road Authority Chairperson Abdullah Sumbul and others.
CM Shehbaz said that he had been accused of being involved in corruption in road construction projects but all allegations against him have been proven wrong. Apart from building roads, our government had also developed magnificent institutions of health and education, while construction work was ongoing on the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute (PKLI).
Similarly, a lot of hospitals have also been constructed across the province, he said. If the road infrastructure is not up to the mark, then hurdles would be created for the public in reaching hospitals, educational institutions and offices, he added.
Moreover, the chief minister said that the southern loop had been connected with the northern loop and linked with IC-3. Solar lights have been installed on the road for the benefit of motorists travelling at night.
