KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) expressed its dissatisfaction on police’s inefficiency on Thursday when they were notified that of total of over 20 missing children, the police have been able to recover only four so far.

When the Inspector General of Police (IGP) A.D. Khawaja failed to appear before the court in the first instance, the SHC summoned the provincial police chief by 11am, who instead asked Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Central Muqaddas Haider to go on his behalf.

SSP Haider, while assuring the court that adequate measures will be taken, also informed that the cases for the recovery of another seven missing children have been registered by the police.

The additional advocate general, however, owed the slow progress to IGP’s failure to appoint a high-level official to cater the cases.

“Children are missing from Sindh, and the IGP is not concerned,” the court observed. “The children should be recovered. This is an alarming situation.”

The court urged the IGP to file a report on the matter on an urgent basis, and also directed the Sindh government to do everything in its power to ensure the children are recovered as soon as possible.
