‘People will decide who will be next PM, not Nawaz Sharif’

Addressing a rally on Thursday, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah said that the decision on who will become the next prime minister will be made by the people, not Nawaz Sharif.

Reacting to former PM announcing that his brother and current Punjab chief minister would be the next prime minister, he said, “How can Nawaz Sharif decide who will be the next prime minister? The decision on whether Bilawal Bhutto, Shehbaz Sharif or Imran Khan becoming the prime minister will be taken by the people.”

Taking a jibe at the former prime minister, he said Yousaf Raza Gillani did not ask why he was asked to leave the office of prime minister

Meanwhile, during a news conference in Faisalabad, PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira stressed that his party would not allow democracy to be derailed in the country, adding that his party wants elections to be held on time and will not allow it to be delayed.

He told reporters that Nawaz Sharif would benefit from democracy being derailed in the country, adding that the former prime minister had been a part of democracy being derailed in the past.

“Former PM was trying to create a clash between institutions; however, this would not be allowed,” he said. “Nawaz Sharif is trying to run a movement against the judiciary, let’s see what happens.”

Responding to a question, Kaira said that there should be accountability after the Model Town report was made public. “We have assured Tahirul Qadri that if he protests within the law we will be with him.”

Earlier on Wednesday, the PPP leader said the party does not wish to ally with Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

“The democratic system in the country does not suit Nawaz, and instead of supporting the system, the former premier is moving towards a clash o institutions,” he maintained.
