Ostrich farming on rise in Punjab

LAHORE: Ostrich farming is on a rise in Punjab with Punjab Livestock & Dairy Development’s Ostrich farming development project registering new farms on a routine basis.

Punjab Livestock & Dairy Development spokesperson stated that currently a total 6245 Ostrich forms are registered in the province with plans of increasing the number in the coming years.

According to the spokesperson, Punjab government has provided a subsidy of Rs14.5 million in 2016-17 to the ostrich farming industry and the amount will be increased in the upcoming fiscal year.

Under the project, Punjab government plans to give registered ostrich farms Rs.10,000 subsidy per bird and technical facility and vaccination will also be provided by the provincial administration.

According to the spokesperson, fresh ostrich meat will soon be available in all the cities of the province.
