ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved its verdict on the maintainability of the petition filed against the participation of a British general as chief guest in the passing out parade of Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) Kakul.
IHC Justice Amir Farooq, on Wednesday, conducted the hearing of the petition. The petitioner Advocate Colonel (R) Inam-ul-Rahim appeared before the court and stated that the PMA was established after the existence of Pakistan and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was the chief guest in its first passing out parade.
“As per tradition set by the Quaid-e-Azam, the president or prime minister would be the chief guest of the passing out parade and in the absence of both, the defence minister would be the chief guest”, argued the petitioner.
He said that the British Chief of General Staff General Nicolas Petrek Karter was invited as the chief guest in the passing out parade while violating the tradition, which is illegal. A foreigner cannot visit the government office without pre intimidation of the ministry of foreign affairs.
The petitioner requested the court to stop the persons responsible for this event and not to contact foreigners without prior permission of the government.
After hearing the arguments of the petitioner, the court has reserved its verdict.
