Punjab CM directs to complete PKLI project in time

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed that work on the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute (PKLI) be expedited and that the first phase of the project should be completed by December 25.

Immediately, after returning from London, the chief minister chaired a high-level meeting at the site of PKLI project to review progress on construction work and other relevant matters. He also inspected the construction work, issued necessary directions and reviewed the installation of medical equipment.

Punjab Minister Khawaja Salman Rafiq, PKLI President Dr Saeed Akhtar, Health secretary, Lahore Development Authority director general, Punjab Infrastructure Development Authority CEO and officials concerned were present on the occasion.

“Collective efforts will bear fruit and on the birth anniversary of the founder of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the whole nation, especially the people of Punjab, will be given a gift in the shape of completion of the first phase of the PKLI,” said CM Shehbaz Sharif.

The chief minister said that the institute, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs20 billion, will be a state-of-the-art treatment facility for kidney and liver patients which makes it of great importance to the healthcare sector as no such facility is present before.

“The deserving patients suffering from kidney and liver diseases will get latest healthcare facilities free of cost,” CM said, adding that the concerned provincial minister, secretary and relevant officials should shift their offices to the site for personal supervision of the work.

He commended the efforts of the team engaged on this project and said that the efforts of the whole team are praiseworthy and the horticulture work being carried out for the hospital is also of the highest quality.
