ISLAMABAD: “One must have the courage to speak the truth and should not be afraid’, stated Maryam Nawaz as a response to her inclusion in the world’s 11 most powerful women list by New York Times.
Maryam Nawaz, daughter of the disqualified prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif, was named among the top 11 powerful women of the world on Sunday in a 2017 ranking issued by New York Times.
She was ranked by the newspaper as the most courageous and most powerful woman of Pakistan and is the most suitable heir to the political empire that her father and ousted premier Nawaz Sharif has built, however, could face hinderance in gaining further popularity due to corruption references and court cases.
“She had recently emerged as the right hand of her father, the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif,” NY Times wrote.
Responding to a question on being included in the list by a private media outlet Maryam stated, “one must have the courage to speak the truth” before adding, “one should not be afraid, one should have the courage to speak the truth.”
